For decades, mods have granted PC gamers the freedom to tweak, change, and improve their experiences. Bethesda games in particular, with their massive worlds and wide breadth of things to do and see, are ripe for the modding.
By Mark Medina
From simple bug-fixes to a mod that changes all Deathclaws into killer Thomas the Tank Engines, almost anything you’d want (or didn’t know you’d want) in a game like Fallout 4 exists.
This particular list of Fallout 4 mods is a bit more grounded, focusing on making the Commonwealth even more beautiful without altering gameplay. You can even download some of these mods for Fallout 4 on Xbox One.
Here are IGN’s top 10 visual mods for Fallout 4.
10. Power Armor HUD by Hellstorm102
While we love stomping around in Fallout 4’s Power Armor, its flimsy-feeling, transparent HUD leaves a lot to be desired. The Power Armor HUD by Hellstorm102 replaces these default elements with a solid, weightier control panel. It might obscure your view a little, but in a giant, hulking suit of armor, that’s sort of the point.
You also have the ability to change the look of the new HUD, so whether you like a cleaner interface or something a tad more weathered, your options are open.

9. Realistic Word Map by Vastias
The Realistic World Map mod by Vastias takes Fallout 4’s muddled old vanilla map and replaces it with a much more detailed version, featuring roads, bodies of water, and land masses. You can also adjust the map’s brightness and choose what gets displayed. Little details like these make Realistic World Map a must-have for any Wasteland adventurers who like to plan ahead.

8. Lowered Weapons by Lesma666
Ever since Wolfenstein and Doom, we’ve always wondered why first-person shooters force your character to run around with their weapon constantly pointed out in front of them. It makes sense when you’re shooting, but if you’re trying to conduct peaceful business in a settlement, having your gun raised and ready to fire is a little awkward.
The Lowered Weapons mod by Lesma666 finally fixes this. Having your gun lowered outside combat zones feels way more natural and makes visiting towns and other peaceful camps a lot more immersive.

7. Pip-Boy Shadows by McGruffin
Pip-Boy Shadows by McGruffin adds dynamic shadows to the inhabitants and objects of the Commonwealth. More realistic shadows are certainly a plus on their own, but because this mod is most noticeable in the dark, it pairs spectacularly well with the next mod on our list.
Download it on NexusMods. Also available on Xbox One. Find out how to install it with our Xbox One mod guide for Fallout 4.
6. Darker Nights by unforbidable
Have you ever been to the mountains at night? Since the world of Fallout 4 is only sparsely populated with settlements, sporting crude campfires and low-voltage electricity, it gets pretty dark out there at night. But not dark enough.
Darker Nights by unforbidable is a must-have. When the sun goes down on the Commonwealth, this mod makes sure it really feels like night-time. It also comes with an option that lets you adjust how well enemies and NPCs can see you in the dark, making stealth missions much more interesting.

5. Resurrection by ResurrectionDev
Even Fallout 4 purists can make room for Resurrection by ResurrectionDev. It gives all landmarks and environmental objects, from rocks to roads and even buildings, an overgrown look that is really a sight to see.
If you have a PC capable of running this mod, there’s no reason not to give the Commonwealth the revival it deserves.
Download it on NexusMods.
4. Mega Explosions by Meltus
One of the best parts of Fallout 4 is making things go boom. But what if you could make the booms even boomier? That’s where Mega Explosions by Meltus comes in. Not only are the explosion sizes from your Fatman, Grenades, and Mines all doubled, but the damage is increased as well. It’s a great way to add awesome new action elements to some of your more explosive battles. If you don’t want the actual game altered in any way, you can also just turn on the bigger explosion textures, and keep damage the same.
Download it on NexusMods.
3. Water Enhanced by Jmane2009
While Fallout 4’s water looks good, Water Enhanced by Jmane2009 is a great way to make the bodies of water in the Commonwealth look even better. Lakes become clearer, light reflects off ocean waves more believably, and streams ripple with a beautiful glisten. With this mod installed, stumbling upon any body of water is really a treat.
Download it on NexusMods. Also available on Xbox One. Find out how to install it with our Xbox One mod guide for Fallout 4.
2. True Storms by fadingsignal
True Storms by fadingsignal takes the vanilla weather effects of Fallout 4 and cranks them up to 11. Running in a thick fog that you can barely see through is awesome and dust storms emphasize just how desolate the Commonwealth has become. This mod also causes special weather events to occur more frequently, making things like rad storms a serious threat to players.

1. Fallout 4 Seasons Project by GameDuchess
Fallout 4 is a vast and immersive experience, but in a world where literally years of in-game time can fly by, one crucial element of reality remains absent: the four seasons. So it’s no surprise that our favorite graphics mod for Fallout 4 is the Seasons Project by GameDuchess. From the bright and vibrant colors of spring, to the desolate silence of winter, the Seasons Project lets you bring your favorite time of year to the Commonwealth. The seasons don’t change automatically, but with variations for all four, this mod is definitely worth checking out.

Forums:Index > Fallout: New Vegas general discussion > Wasteland Rifleman Build
Hey all,
Build is as follows:
Character was modeled off of Haeravon's Character Creation FAQ with some alterations.
It will be primarily geared towards a 'marksman' style of Guns-use and strong skill stacking (Spch/Lckpck/Sci/Rep/etc). Hand Loader and Jury Rigging are included for added self-sufficiency and access to the more powerful custom ammunition. Weapons handling was taken to cut down on SPECIAL points for STR. I'm not entirely happy with it, though. I don't like the fact that I'll be required to obtain some form of Power Armor to use the AMR and LMG. I'm not sure when a set will even be made available to my character. Also a bit apprehensive on taking Small Frame as a trait, though I don't plan on playing in Hardcore mode for my first playthrough.
Wish I could max out the 9 LCK, though I'd still receive the full +5 skill bonus even if I didn't. Considering further reducing END by 1pt. and foregoing the Regenerative Implant to boost either STR or LCK. I think AGI should be fine at 8, but it's an option as well. Curious about the possibility of reducing INT, as I hear it's effectiveness has been somewhat nerfed from previous games. The perk progression could use some tweaking, though I'm fairly content with the perks themselves. The build is still in the preliminary phase, of course, so it's all open to discussion.
Concerning the more VATS-related perks; Grim Reaper/Nerves/etc, I'm considering dropping. Perhaps not, though. I'm interested in your perspectives on how to handle that as well as the build in general. Thanks for reading!

Looks like you've got yerself a sniperish build. Got some FNV experience on that so I'll speak a few thoughts.

Very interesting build. It looks quite a lot like the 'perfect' character build I made a while ago. (Perfect for me at least =P)I started with 2 more Strength, 1 Less agility and 1 less Endurance. Traits are Trigger Discipline and Good Natured for the sake of better skills or I would have skipped the 2nd trait. Implanting the same specials and skipping the regenerative implant as it is a complete waste of time and caps in my opinion. I'm not a VATS user though so I skipped Sniper, Commando, Nerves of Steel, Grim Reaper aswell as Weapon Handling. I will have 8 Str without which is plenty for me. Although I strongly considered going with 7 and throwing up an extra perception to pick up Four Eyes trait instead of Good Natured without losing Better Criticals.Spending my perks on an additional Luck training, Strength training, Hunter, Rapid Reload and Silent Running at the moment. Not sure if I should switch out Shotgun Surgeon for Strong back just yet but as a pack rat on Hardcore it's tempting as hell. If you want to burst through armor with a shotgun load up slugs - single bullet means single armor check. ;)
I don't plan on using a Remnants power armor like you unless I need +1 Str for carrying items. (Swap with Cass as needed whom carries my whiskey while she's at it =P) Instead I'm going for the medium Gannon Family Tesla Armor with Authority Glasses for looks and the 1st Recon Beret. 10 Luck/Finesse/Recon Beret will make sniper rifles perform critical damage with every shot and it seriously pumps up the damage from other weapons too. Gobi will be my main weapon through most of the game with non stop crits on JSP ammo and Better Criticals. ^^ You can Jury Rig snipers with Service rifles for cheap repairs and the Gobi has a better CND then a normal sniper to last a bit.Anti-Materiel will be used with Hand Load .50 Caliber rounds to plant the first shots from Sneak once I get 100 repair to make that ammo. Sneak criticals deal twice normal crit damage for massive damage results on the .50 Cal. And you can Jury Rig a .50 Cal with varmint rifles. On the other hand YCS does very very sweet normal damage aswell with a 2x critical mod and rapid reload. Moreso if you use True Police Stories heheh. It does slightly more damage then an Anti-Materiel on sneak crits with normal ammo but with Hand Loads .50 are way too awesome to be using YCS after that.Ratslayer will also crit each and every shot, together with Hunter perk and possibly hollow point rounds it will serve as my animal wiping rifle through the wastes. :P
This build will allow 100 E. Weapons, Explosives, Guns and Sneak. 95 Repair/Lockpick can be turned into 100 when I wish to fix/create items or pick locks through an vault utility suit. 80 Speech covers all persuasions in the entire game minus at the end as far as I know if not a magazine will fix that. Although I don't plan on pursuading anyone out of anything there since the final battle is where the fun is at. ;) 90 Science with the followers lab coat to reach 100.Survival and Medicine will be at 80 for checks, item creation and a great boost of healing which is very valuable on Hardcore mode. Stacking multiple different heal-over-time items at once is how you stay alive. ;P Magazines will max out these stats if needed for a while but I doubt it.Barter can be brought to 60 for persuasion checks with a magazine and a roving trader suit+hat otherwise sit at 30. (You get filthy rich even with 0 barter and no reputations) While Unarmed/Melee will be untouched and unused at 34.Getting all this will require each skillbook in the game including the one from sending power through the entire wasteland at HELIOS and having the intelligence implant before reaching level 3. But it's a lot of fun playing through since the build is pretty damn solid if you start implanting early. High strength, endurance, luck and at the start a nice amount of intelligence based skills is a great way to begin.
It's very much like your own with just enough Per/Agi for Better Criticals and Silent Running perks after getting the implants. The ability to get 10 strength, having the most skillpoints possible and a maxed out crit chance is my personal goal. So far it's doing awesome even with rather weak gear on Very Hard difficulty. I tagged Guns/Speech/Science at the start as a boost. Good luck with your characters!
I really typed wayyy more then I intended, lol. --PvtNiss 01:39, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
Fallout 3 Simple Realism Paintings
Thanks for the great advice guys, I sincerely appreciate the input.
I've done a bit of tinkering with the build; not too terribly much, but enough to reflect some of the suggestions you've both offered. Essentially I've reduced END by 1pt, placing it in LCK for the solid 10% crit chance. Additionally I've replaced Grim Reaper's Sprint with a rank of Intense Training (STR), to eliminate my previous concerns about having to rely on Power Armor, which had the dual effect of allowing my character access to the STR6 weapons much earlier in the game. Now I won't be waiting for Weapons Handling at lvl.16 before I'm able to use something as simple as a hunting rifle.
Shotgun Surgeon I've decided to leave in, as some websites I've visited cite some very convincing statistics which argue for its' use. Should be fun, in any case, as I plan on utilizing them extensively with handloaded magnum-ammo and slugs. My go-to for CQB and mid-range combat, if you will. I believe I'll still keep my starting INT at 9, as well. Perhaps I'm too entrenched in the mentality of the previous Fallout titles; and that may well be, but purposefully skipping out on skill-points just feels off. Plus I'd like to meet any high-INT checks that may come along.
As for the remaining three VATS-perks (Commando/Sniper/Nerves), I really just couldn't bring myself to cut them. I know, I know. Granted the build is for a sniper, but VATS plays an important role in close-quarters engagements, and FO:NV will force me into them regardless of my specialization, I'm sure. At any rate, the only replacements I had been interested in were more convenience-related perks than anything else (Strong Back/Silent Running/etc). I'm more in favor of some added lethality in VATS than being able to carry more kit or run while sneaking, despite it not being my primary method of engagement. Of course, it's still open to discussion.

Better late than never?
Mods are finally available for all you patient PS4 players, which means Sony enthusiasts are busy playing catch up with the tens of thousands of PC mods and 4,500+ Xbox One mods already available (and counting). The pickings at the moment are slim, but the number is growing as dedicated modders get to work.
If you want a more realistic game that draws you in and makes you forget Fallout 4 is a digital landscape, then immersion mods are what you should start installing first.
Unfortunately, many of the PC immersion staples haven't been ported over to the PS4 yet, so here we're going to cover what's available so far and what PS4 users should be downloading immediately for a better Commonwealth wasteland experience.
Insignificant Object Remover
Nothing breaks immersion like a stuttering frame rate. While that's typically more of an issue on PC when the graphics are turned all the way up, it's been known to happen on consoles as well.
This mod not only makes the game look a bit cleaner, but it also removes hordes of tiny, insignificant objects that are generated on the fly, which can cause frame rates to slow down in cluttered areas.
Fallout 3 Simple Realism Mod
The end result? An all-around better time exploring the Commonwealth and getting lost in the story.
Water Redux
A graphical overhaul to draw you into the game world, Water Redux does exactly what it sounds like; It changes water based on its location on the map. Some water is more clear and pure as it moves, while other pools are stagnant and can't be seen through. If you don't care for how the water effects look in Fallout 4, be sure to download this one ASAP.
Simple Green
Want a greener, less dreary world? While this sort of mod thrives in the PC setting, it's more difficult with the restrictions placed on console mods, which led to the creation of Simple Green.
The mod gives Fallout 4 more grass and trees across a variety of areas, and it also allows you to plant new trees in your settlements. For those wondering why nothing grew back after the war, give this one a shot.
Realistic Bullet Velocity And Gravity
The Fallout games aren't exactly known for their realistic physics. In fact, every time a new one comes out, there's bound to be a gag reel of bugged objects smashing into each other in bizarre ways.
Changing things up a bit, this mod alters how combat works so that bullets/lasers/etc. no longer instantaneously hit a target after you pull the trigger. Objects now take time to move through the air, and they can lose precision the farther they have to travel.
It makes for a more challenging and realistic experience while battling raiders and deathclaws in the irradiated wasteland.
Simple Survival
An alternative to the game's main survival mode, this one adds in immersion and realism elements that give a purpose to all the food objects found throughout the game.
With the mod installed, your stats will go down when you are hungry, thirsty or haven't slept. Good luck vip apk. Raw or irradiated food will cause you problems, and limb damage isn't healed as easily with food, either.
Your experience will get harder, but accomplishing anything in this unforgiving survival mode will be well worth the effort.
Settlement Supplies Expanded
Exactly what it sounds like, Settlement Supplies Expanded greatly increases the number of objects you can use, like furniture, fences, decorative objects and more. For a more well-rounded experience when building your perfect settlement, this is the mod you want.
Tony's Immersive Fallout
Creating major changes across the board, Tony's Immersive Fallout radically alters health, damage and armor for both the Sole Survivor and all the enemies/NPCs you will come across.
There are no more enemies with huge amounts of health (Legendary enemies in particular have been culled entirely), and there's no more gaining extra health as you level -- what you get at the start is what you get.
Consequently, armor is now more important and scales with the damage of weapons. Most enemies will have about the same health as you, too, creating a more even -- but deadly -- playing field.
Immersive Gameplay
An even bigger immersion-focused mod than the last one, this changes nearly every aspect of the game for a totally different experience than vanilla Fallout 4.
Leveling is slower, health gain is reduced, ammo and damage have been tweaked to be in more in-line with real life, explosions are much more deadly and there are massive AI changes to enemies.
Good luck surviving in this faster, more deadly version of the Commonwealth!
There are loads more tiny mods that can create better immersion for Fallout 4, like a horde of modifications to make each NPC and companion look more weathered and less plastic.
Take a gander at the 600+ currently available here and see what strikes your fancy!
If scrolling through page after page after page of options isn't up your alley, don't worry, we've got you covered with more of the Fallout 4 PS4 mods you'll want:
